MONGOLIA TO ENSURE A GOOD HARVEST IN THE YEAR OF THE PANDEMIC

Last year, a total combined area of 478 thousand hectares was cultivated for crops in Mongolia. The cultivation starts mostly in late-April or early May.

Earlier today (3 April), the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry announced that a soft loan package of MNT 150 billion with 3-5 percent interest rate would be issued by the Development Bank of Mongolia to encourage crop farmers.

The ministry is paying special attention on spring cropping of 2020 in regard to the economic situation in times of COVID-19 pandemic, considering it is important to increase the amount of farming under cultivation, keep jobs and provide people with domestically grown vegetables. The ministry is also stressing that everything required will be provided – from seed, fertilizer and fuel oil; this will be on preferential conditions through the Agricultural Support Fund.
