FIRST HANDBOOK ON SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION FOR MONGOLIAN WOOL AND CASHMERE INDUSTRY PUBLISHED

In the scope of STeP EcoLab Mongolia project funded by the European Union, a handbook of environmentally friendly, sustainable production for the Mongolian wool and cashmere industry has been published and is ready to be delivered to the hands of managers, engineers and technical workers of the sector.

The handbook included not only the best practices of introducing sustainability to the wool and cashmere industry, but also the main processing technologies. The book is distinct as it is the first-ever guideline for introducing sustainable production and consumption to the Mongolian wool and cashmere subsector.

Chapters on general concepts of sustainability are written by Collaboration Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production /CSCP/ team based in Germany, and the chapter on spinning quality and technology was developed by Sc.D, Professor D.Enkhtuya, while Ph.D V.Shinenemekh wrote chapters for wet processing technology and chemical usage, the head of Water Research Institute, Ph.D D.Basandorj drafted the technology for waste-water treatment, and lastly, Ph.D J.Dorjpurev, Mongolian Accredited Energy Auditor, developed the energy efficiency chapter.

A team of experts of their respective fields collaborated and created the handbook based on the results of previous studies run by the STeP EcoLab project and common international best practices. The creators of the handbook hope it will become a standard desk-top reference for all wool and cashmere sector workers, enabling them to learn about sustainable production in their native language.
