MONGOLIA TO CUT NIGHTTIME ELECTRICITY TARIFFS

In an effort to reduce Ulaanbaatar’s chronic air pollution, an annual nighttime electricity tariff reduction for the city’s ger districts is being provided from November 1 to April 1.

Nearly MNT 20 billion will be spent on the electricity price discount for 116 thousand families in Ulaanbaatar and 22 thousand households in the surrounding ger districts. The night time electricity tariff will be reduced from 6 AM to 9 PM. Furthermore, households in those provinces where the population is over 10 thousand will be given a 50-percent discount on the nighttime electricity tariff.

The total annual electricity consumption in Mongolia equals 1044 MW. Regarding the budget, MNT 20 billion and MNT 28 billion have been budgeted for electricity tariff discounts for 2019 and 2020 respectively.
