A project will be realized to renovate the Ulaanbaatar city’s #4 thermal power plant with a financing of JPY 4.2 billion from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) with an aim to reduce greenhouse gas emission from the plant.

A contract on the power plant’s renovation was signed on Thursday by D.Zorigt, the Minister of Energy; and Takenori Shimizu, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Mongolia.

Within the project, Japan’s “Yokogoawa” company will perform works of automating the plant’s administration and controlling system, while a Japanese consortium comprised “MHPS” and “MCS International”companies will install 192 apparatus in eight stoves of ash blowing and will renovate some parts of 16 mills.

It has been calculated the production of electricity will increase by 18% from 2019, and the coal consumption at the plant will reduce by eight per cent. Moreover, technical hitch in mechanical controlling system of the plant’s turbines will be completely abolished thanks to the project.
