PREMIER WELCOMES RIO TINTO AND OT LEADERS

The Prime Minister of Mongolia, Mr J.Erdenebat received Tuesday the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Rio Tinto, Mr Jan du Plessis and the board member and CEO, Mr Jean Sebastien Jacques, directors of Copper & Diamonds, and Chairman of Board of Oyu Tolgoi LLC G.Batsukh, Director of Copper & Diamonds Kh.Amarjargal and Director for Mongolia S.Monkhsukh.

Jean Sebastien Jacques remarked this is the first-ever visit of Rio Tinto Board members to Mongolia. The visit stands as a confirmation of foreign investors’ trustworthiness to Mongolia, he noted and added the Underground Mine Development is progressing with 5,000 employees whose initial number was 2,000. The project will always strive to employ as many Mongolians as possible, said Mr Jacques.

“The underground mine development will continue for five years. Therefore, the group focuses on capacity strengthening of Mongolian employees and training competitive staff on the international level”, he said.

In underlining the Oyu Tolgoi is a major project for Mongolia, the Prime Minister noted the government is working for launching the mega projects and encouraging the ongoing programs. The PM advised the guests to concentrate further increasing the number of Mongolian workers in the project, procure home-made goods and services and to make more effort on selecting Mongolian companies as contractors.

Mr Jean Sebastien Jacques accepted the advice. At the end of this meeting, the head of government urged the investors once again to keep the people of Mongolia updated about the project output, which stays at home.
