Industrial Output Rises More Than 50%

Ulaanbaatar, September 15, 2026 /MONTSAME/. Industrial output stood at MNT 49.9 trillion in preliminary terms for the first eight months of this year, up 56.3%, or MNT 18 trillion, from the same period last year.

 

According to the National Statistics Office, this growth was driven by a 68.2%, or MNT 17 trillion, increase in mining and quarrying, and a 15%, or MNT 759.3 billion, increase in manufacturing.

 

Mining and quarrying output reached MNT 42 trillion over the period, driven by a 75.8%, or MNT 10.2 trillion, rise in metal ore mining and a 63.9%, or MNT 6.4 trillion, rise in coal and lignite mining. Within mining and quarrying, the physical volume of iron ore, copper concentrate (by metal content), iron ore concentrate, fluorspar, fluorspar concentrate, and coal rose 2.2-57.5% year-on-year, while output of lignite, crude oil, unrefined gold, zinc concentrate, and silver concentrate fell 3.4-40.4%.

 

 

In manufacturing, output volumes of key products such as pure alcohol, flour, metal blanks, cement, liquid milk, combed cashmere, lime, and knitted cashmere garments rose 1.1-20.3% year-on-year, while production of vodka, bottled water, beverages and juice, cathode copper, meat, cigarettes, and coal briquettes fell 2.9-93.1%.

 

Sales of industrial products totaled MNT 55.7 trillion in preliminary terms for the first eight months of this year, up 60.1%, or MNT 20.9 trillion, year-on-year, driven mainly by a 74.8%, or MNT 20 trillion, rise in mining sector sales.

 

 

Of the MNT 43.1 trillion worth of sales made in foreign markets in the first eight months of this year, MNT 42.2 trillion came from mining and quarrying. Of mining sector exports, coal accounted for 36.5%, metal ore for 59.5%, petroleum for 1.5%, and other mineral extraction for 2.5%.
