Audit Launched into COP17 Funding and Expenditure

ULAANBAATAR, September 9, 2026 /MONTSAME/. The National Audit Office of Mongolia has launched a financial and compliance audit of the funding and expenditure of the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (COP17), hosted by Mongolia.

The audit was officially launched on September 8 by Bayarsaikhan D., Director of the Special Functions Audit Department and Lead Auditor. He briefed representatives of the entities subject to the audit on its objectives, scope, plan and program.

The audit will examine the sources of funding for organizing COP17, the planning and inclusion of funds in the budget, whether the use of budget funds complied with relevant laws and regulations, and assess and draw conclusions on the results of the funding and expenditure.

The audit is planned to cover the National Committee for Organizing COP17, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Property Policy and Regulation Agency, the Ulaanbaatar City Governor’s Office, and other relevant organizations.

As part of the audit, decisions, policy documents, activity reports, primary financial records, procurement contracts and other relevant documents issued or maintained by the above organizations from 2023 to 2026 will be examined to assess compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

At the audit’s opening, representatives of the entities subject to and covered by the audit were urged to provide complete and accurate documents and information required for the audit and to cooperate with the audit team.
