Lun Soum Agroforestry Project Experiments with Korean Vegetable Seedlings

Ulaanbaatar, July 29, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Minister of Environment and Climate Change Batbaatar Bat has visited an agroforestry farm, established under the ‘Green Wall’ Project in Lun soum, Tuv aimag.

As part of the project, afforestation has been carried out in three designated areas in Lun soum. Since 2022, an agricultural project against desertification has been implemented in parallel. At the agroforestry farm field, about 50 hectares have been afforested, and a comprehensive set of facilities has been established, including a training center,  storage facility, and a smart irrigation system.  Over the past three years, the farm has also introduced greenhouse farming, conducting trials of various vegetables grown from Korean seedlings. These trials include red and green bell peppers, eggplants, pumpkins, cucumbers, tomatoes, and corn, as well as Korean varieties of watermelon.

Korean experts have also provided training for local residents, creating stable employment for 15 individuals. Some participants have already begun household-scale cultivation based on the skills acquired.

The agroforestry field in Lun soum is expected to be transferred to the Government of Mongolia in 2026.
