Mongolia will begin issuing certificates of origin for products exported to Japan digitally. This initiative aims to enhance the implementation of the Economic Partnership Agreement between the two countries and to support manufacturers and business operators. As part of the agreement, the certificate of origin for goods exported from Mongolia to Japan will be digitalized. The Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in cooperation with proposals from the Japanese side, announced that the certificates will be issued in “PDF” format to exporters starting May 7, 2025. Furthermore, the Ministry of Economy and Development of Mongolia informed journalists today about the opening of an electronic portal for this process. The Mongolia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement came into effect in 2016 and has been in implementation since June 7, 2016. The agreement was established to boost trade and investment between the two countries, promote value-added exports from Mongolia’s industrial sector, increase foreign currency inflow, reduce Japan’s tariff and non-tariff barriers, facilitate trade, and streamline customs clearance procedures. Under the agreement, Mongolia and Japan negotiated the reduction of import customs tariffs for approximately 5,700 types of goods in 97 categories from Mongolia and about 9,300 types of goods in 97 categories from Japan. As a result, Mongolia immediately eliminated tariffs on 59 percent (3,429 types of goods) of these imported goods, while Japan eliminated tariffs on 86 percent (8,000 types of goods) starting from the date the agreement came into effect.
