Sustainable Ecosystem and Agriculture Management Project in Mongolia: Phase 2 to Be Implemented

Ulaanbaatar, August 15, 2024 /MONTSAME/. To implement the Memorandum of Understanding on Forest Partnership between Mongolia and the European Union, Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia Odontuya Saldan, Deputy Country Director of GIZ Mongolia Jürgen Hartwig, and Resident Representative of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Mongolia Vinod Ahuja signed a Multi-Partner Contribution Agreement on August 14, 2024. This Agreement launches the “Sustainable Ecosystem and Agriculture Management in Mongolia” project phase 2, co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development.

Project phase 2 will be implemented in Khentii, Selenge, Khuvsgul, and Zavkhan aimags with the funding of EUR 15.8 million for 48 months or four years from August 2024.

The project aims at strengthening Mongolia’s green and digital transition efforts for the inclusive and sustainable development of the country. The specific objectives are:

-Improved regulatory and policy framework to enable sustainable, climate-sensitive, and gender-inclusive management of forests and agriculture,

-Adopted integrated landscape management with a focus on agriculture and forestry resolving food system challenges and climate change,

-Developed and strengthened selected sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture and forestry value chains,

-Enhanced capacities of Technical and Vocational Education and Training to meet labor market needs.

Minister of Environment and Climate Change Odontuya expressed commitment to paying utmost attention to this multifaceted project at the policy level.
