2024 State Great Khural Elections: All Votes to be Recounted Manually

Ulaanbaatar, June 26, 2024 /MONTSAME/. The 2024 State Great Khural Election is just around the corner – on June 28, 2024.

A parliamentary resolution on the use of voting equipment for the 2024 parliamentary elections was approved in December 2023 and New Image Cast voting machines will be used for voting, vote counting, and reporting results in the regular parliamentary elections.

Pilot testing was done on each voting machine and transported to rural destinations. However, all votes will be counted manually to verify the results of voting machines. Manual counting of votes will begin in all polling stations just after closing polls. Specifically, the manual counting will be conducted without interruption after the voter turnout, and the number of ballot papers used for voting in the polling station as well as in portable sealed boxes are reported. Ballot sheets will be taken out one by one, the marks will be shown clearly to the observers and the votes for candidates, political parties, and coalitions will be read out.

In previous elections, there was no instance of variance between the results of voting machines and manual counting. The manual counting is open to observers, the press, and voter representatives, reported the General Election Commission of Mongolia.
