NSO HEAD B.BATDAVAA ELECTED AS CHAIRMAN OF SESSION OF STATISTICS COMMITTEE OF ESCAP

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. The eighth session of the Committee on Statistics of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) was held on August 23-25 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok in a hybrid format.

 

During the session, Chairperson of National Statistics Office of Mongolia B.Batdavaa was elected as a chairman of session of the Committee on Statistics for a two-year term.

 

At the session, the National Statistics Office shared its experience on how it has collected and developed data by using the computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI), an innovative method of data collection, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and presented the works being implemented in Mongolia in the field of strengthening ‘Data Governance’.

During the session, participants discussed statistical development in the region, regional cooperation and the formulation of regional positions to advance official statistics in line with existing commitments, including the collective vision and framework for action by the Asia-Pacific statistical community, endorsed by the Committee at its fifth session in December 2016 and supported by ESCAP in May 2017, and the Declaration on Navigating Policy with Data to Leave No One Behind, adopted by the Committee at its sixth session in October 2018 and endorsed by ESCAP in May 2019.
