INBOUND FOREIGN PASSENGERS DECREASES BY 41.4 PERCENT

In 2021, 323.3 thousand passengers entered Mongolia. In terms of border point for all inbound passengers, 24.7 percent crossed through Gashuun sukhait, 16.4 percent -- Zamiin-Uud, 12.1 percent -- Shivee khuren, 5.7 percent --  Buyant-Ukhaa, 5.2 percent -- Altanbulag and 35.9 percent -- other border points. Out of the inbound passengers, 284.1 thousand (87.9 percent) were Mongolian citizens and 39.2 thousand (12.1 percent) were foreigners.

In 2021, 39.2 thousand foreign passengers arrived in the country, which showed a decrease of 27.7 thousand or 41.4 percent compared to the previous year. Of those foreigners, 83.3 percent stayed up to 30 days, 2.7 percent stayed for 30 to 90 days and 14.0 percent stayed for 90 days or longer. By the purpose for entry of the foreign passengers, 6.1 thousand or 15.6 percent arrived for tourism while 33.1 thousand or 84.4 percent came to the country for business, study and permanent residence.

The number of foreign tourists decreased by 25.8 thousand or 43.8 percent from the previous year. Compared to the previous year, the number of tourists from China decreased by 7,750 or 57.4 percent, tourists from Russian Federation -- by 17,110 or 57.7 percent, tourists from South Korea -- by 2,748 or 54.3 percent and tourists from Japan -- by 754 or 66.7 percent respectively.
