YOUTH AGED 25-35 MAKE UP 52.4 PERCENT OF TOTAL REGISTERED UNEMPLOYED

According to the Ministry Labour and Social Protection, the number of registered job seekers reached 23.3 thousand in labour agencies in aimags and the Capital city at the end of February 2021. Out of total registered unemployed, 15.5 thousand (66.3%) were registered as unemployed and the remaining 7.8 thousand (33.7%) were employed but looking for a new job. Moreover, 8.0 thousand or 51.6% were women.

 

Registered unemployed decreased by 5.2 thousand (25.1%) from the same period of the previous year and 1.0 thousand (6.1%) from the previous month. In February 2021, labour agencies in aimags and the Capital city registered 3.6 thousand new unemployed, while 0.3 thousand persons from the unemployment register hired on new jobs, and 4.3 thousand persons removed from the unemployment register due to inactive job seeking. In Ulaanbaatar, 1.2 thousand persons newly registered in labour agencies of municipal and the district offices, and 56 persons from the unemployment register hired in February 2021.

 

In February 2021, newly registered unemployed decreased by 881 persons (19.7%), the number of persons hired on new jobs from unemployment register decreased by 402 persons (56.7%), while, the number of persons removed from the unemployment register due to inactive job seeking increased by 562 persons (15.1%) compared to February 2020. Compared to previous month, newly registered unemployed in February 2021 decreased by 932 persons (20.6%), the number of persons hired on new jobs from unemployment register decreased by 404 persons (56.8%), the number of persons removed from the unemployment register due to inactive job seeking decreased by 1.1 thousand persons (21.1%).

 

In February 2021, 3.6 thousand persons newly registered at the labour agencies in aimags and Capital, in which 877 or 24.5% of newly registered persons were dismissed from their jobs, and increased by 186 or 26.9% from the previous month.

 

At national level, 243 (1.6%) persons with disabilities registered as unemployed, in which 123 (50.6%) were women. One in every two registered unemployed has upper secondary education degree, and one in three registered unemployed has diploma or bachelor degree.

 

In total registered unemployed at the national level, 52.4% was young people aged 15-34. The share of young people aged 15-34 in unemployed was 0.7-10.1 points lower in Tuv, Dundgovi, Govi-Altai, Darkhan-Uul, Arkhangai, Govisumber, Bulgan, Zavkhan aimag, and Ulaanbaatar city than the national average.
