FOREIGN TRAVELERS VISITING MONGOLIA DECREASED BY 89.5 PERCENT

 In 2020, 1 361.1 thousand passengers (double counting) had crossed the border of Mongolia, decreased by 4.8 million or 78.4% compared to the previous year.

 

In 2020, 673.8 thousand passengers entered to Mongolia. Of all inbound passengers, 26.3% were crossed through Gashuun Sukhait, 23.0% were crossed through Zamiin-Uud, 16.4% were crossed through Shiveekhuren, 14.6% were crossed through Buyant-Ukhaa, 7.7% were crossed through Altanbulag and 12.0% were crossed through other border points. Out of the inbound passengers, 606.8 thousands (90.1%) were Mongolian citizens and 66.9 thousands (9.9%) were foreigners.

Due to the global outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19), the Mongolian border crossing started to close from February 1, 2020. Mongolia repatriated its 3531 citizens by charter flights and 57 through road and railway ports in October, 605 citizens by charter flights and 10 citizens through road and railway in November, as well as 541 citizens by flights and 41 through road and railway ports in December 2020 respectively.
